Soccer falls in WIAC semifinal

LA CROSSE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team fell in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship (presented by Culver's) semifinal round Thursday, falling to UW-La Crosse 1-0.

It was a defensive battle from start to finish, with only eight total shots in the first half. It was not until the 86th minute that Eagle Natalie Herzog managed to find the back of the net to give La Crosse the game-winner.

The Eagles out-shot the Blugolds in the contest, 15-4, and also held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Sammie Lefaive (Jr. – Coon Rapids, WI) took the loss in goal, recording seven saves on the night.

The win puts the Eagles in the WIAC Championship game against UW-Whitewater on Saturday. The winner will receive the conference's automatic NCAA bid.

The Blugolds wrap up the season with an 8-9-2 overall record and 4-2-1 WIAC record.
