NORTHFIELD, Minn. (Blugolds.com)- The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team earned a much needed turnaround 3-0 win Monday afternoon, where the team took on Carleton College (Minn.) at Bell Field.

Box Score

The story of the first half was Eau Claire's Jocelyn Etten (Sr.-Elkhorn, WI), who would go on to put the Blugolds on the board almost immediately. Etten wasted no time in adding her second goal of the afternoon and season just twenty minutes after that, giving the Blugolds a 2-0 lead. Etten's first goal was an unassisted goal, while her second came off a feed from senior Caroline Henderson (Sr.-Duluth, MN/East).

Carleton had an extremely difficult time mounting any attacks on the Blugolds, as their defense was fantastic all day long.

In the second half, the Blugolds continued to be stiffling on the defensive side. The Blugolds did not let the Knights even take a shot on goal in the second half. On the offensive end, Eau Claire added another insurance goal at the seventy-third minute when Henderson knocked in her third goal of the season on an assist from Emily Sullivan.

One of the things that head coach Sean Yengo wanted to improve on coming into this came was coming out with a strong team mentality. Yengo wanted his team to start fast and they did just that. The Blugolds scored twice in the first half, but also only allowed the Knights two shots the entire game.

Sammie Lefaive (Jr.-Coon Rapids, MN) picks up her first win of the season and will have her defense to thank as she did not have to make a save the entire game. Of course, she would have rather been a bigger part of the game, but Lefaive will gladly take her first win and shutout of the season however it comes.

Eau Claire will look to ride the momentum of their first win into the second match of a three-game road trip. The Blugolds will return to Minnesota to take on Augsburg (Minn.) on Thursday September 8th, kick-off is set for 7:30 PM.
