ST. JOSEPH, Minn. (Blugolds) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team opened the 2016 season on Thursday, falling to the College of Saint Benedict 2-1 in overtime.

Box Score

The Blugolds (0-1) scored in the first 15 minutes of the game, and held onto that lead for the next 70-plus minutes.

Danielle Jensen (Jr.-Mukwonago, WI) tallied the first goal of the season off an assist from Sami Matuszak (Jr.-Green Bay, WI/Preble) at the 11-minute mark to take an early lead.

A tough Eau Claire defense was able to keep the Blazers at bay until the 83rd minute when CSB's Jane Koch found the back of the net. The score remained tied as regulation ended seven minutes later, but Koch struck again in overtime to capture the win.

The Blugolds will host their home-opener on Saturday against St. Olaf with an 11 a.m. start.
