Women’s Soccer Wins The “Battle of the Blues”

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – It is the start of a new tradition that saw a common result as the UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team defeated UW-Stout 1-0 here today at Bollinger Field in the battle for Paul Bunyan's Ax.

Eau Claire improves to 6-9-2 overall and 4-3-0 in the WIAC while Stout falls to 4-9-3 and 2-4-1 in conference play.  The Blugolds hold a 19-3-2 advantage all-time versus the Blue Devils, winning eight of the last nine meetings between both schools.

Paul Bunyan's Ax will go to the winner of the "Battle of the Blues" between the Blugolds and Blue Devils.  The Ax will be displayed on the campus of the winning team for the following year.

Forward Caroline Henderson (Jr.-Duluth, MN/East) scored the game's lone goal at 33:32 assisted by midfielder Teighlor Tvedt (Sr.-Verona, WI).  Henderson has scored a goal in three of the last five games for the Blugolds including back-to-back game winning goals.

Stout outshot Eau Claire 16-12 including an 11-4 advantage in the second half.  The Blue Devils held a slight 5-4 advantage on corner kicks and were whistled for 10 fouls compared to nine for the Blugolds.

Goalie Rachel Griffiths (So.-Waunakee, WI) recorded her third win of the season, all which have been shutouts, and now has a season record of 3-3-1.

The Blugolds will conclude the regular season on Saturday, November 1 when they travel to UW-River Falls.  Game time is set for 7 p.m.
