Falcons End Blugolds' Winning Streak

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (Blugolds.com) — The seven game winning streak for the UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team came to an end Saturday afternoon at the hands of UW-River Falls.

The Falcons scored at 85:37 to break a 0-0 tie and they hung on to shutout the Blugolds 1-0. It is also the first time the Blugolds were held scoreless since starting the season getting shutout in three straight games.

The Blugolds had been off since last Saturday entering the game and they were coming off a 1-0 win over UW-Platteville.

It looked like the two teams were possibly headed to overtime, as neither team was able to get on the board. Unfortunately for UW-Eau Claire, the Falcons scored with just under five minutes left to play, giving them little chance to tie it up.

The Blugolds did get a chance to tie the game though with only seven seconds remaining. Sam Gilbert (Sr.-Maplewood, Minn./North St. Paul) took a corner kick, but the Blugolds could not tie it up on the last ditch effort.

Nina Behrenbrinker
(Jr.-St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) made four saves in goal for the Blugolds, who outshot the Falcons 9-5.

The Blugolds return to action Sunday when they travel to Moorhead, Minn. for a non-conference matchup with Concordia-Moorhead. The game is scheduled for 2 p.m. as they will look to start a new winning streak.

They will also be on the road Wednesday when they take on St. Thomas (Minn.) in another non-conference matchup starting at 4 p.m.
