
WILLIAMSPORT, Penn. (Blugolds.com) – The No. 21 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team went 3-0 on the first day of the Budd Whitehill Duals (hosted by Lycoming College) on Friday.
The Blugolds defeated York (PA) in the first round by a score of 32-10 and in the second round took down Oswego (NY) 42-10. In the day's final round, Eau Claire defeated Springfield (MA) 32-11 and finished the day with 10 pins.
Jack Marley (So. – Trempealeau/GET), Tyler Demo (So. – Loves Park, IL/Belvidere North), Jake Drexler (So. - Stratford), Alfred Daniel (Jr. - Stewartville, MN), Evan Lawrence (Jr. - Hugo, MN/Mahtomedi) and James Huntley (Jr. – Woodbury, MN/Stillwater) led the Blugolds on the day as they all were undefeated.
At 125, Marley defeated York's Jared Kuhns with a 11-8 decision and Oswego's Dan Fishman by tech fall (17-0). In his final bout of the day, he won a 6-4 decision over Robert Hartling of Springfield.
Demo went 3-0 with three pins at 133. His first pin of the day was at 2:59 over Verlensky Joachim of York and the second at 2:18 over Oswego's Logan McGloine. Against Springfield's Ryan Peters, Demo recorded the fall at 4:10.
Drexler earned three wins at 133, the first coming by an 18-2 tech fall over Timothy Sparks (York) and the second by an 16-2 major decision over Joshua Bressette (Oswego). He tallied a fall (4:55) in his final match of the day against Michael Vietri of Springfield.
At 157, Daniel went 2-0, tallying a 11-2 major decision over Caleb Beach (Oswego) and a 13-6 decision over Springfield's Joseph Parsons.
Competing at 174, Lawrence recorded a quick pin (1:12) over York's Joseph Bunce before defeating Oswego's Isaac Mathews by a 19-0 tech fall. In his final bout against Springfield's Jake Kennedy, he tallied a 12-3 major decision.
On Saturday the Blugolds will face Messiah (PA) at 10:30 EST.
