Four Blugolds place at NCAA Wrestling Regionals

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team finished in 11th place at the NCAA Division III Upper Midwest Wrestling Regional Tournament, with four Blugolds earning a spot on the podium.

At 133 pounds, Thomas Severson (Fr. – Marathon, WI/D.C. Everest) took fifth place. The newcomer defeated Scott Arneson of UW-Platteville with a 9-0 major decision in Saturday's first match. Against UW-La Crosse's Josh Stenger, Severson was pinned to send him to the fifth place bout against Noah Becker from Saint John's. Severson took the win due to a medical forfeit.

David Dudych (So. - West Dundee, IL/Harry D. Jacobs) lost in his first matchup with UW-Whitewater's Bernard Casella by fall (3:21) in Saturday's consolation bracket at 149 pounds. The sophomore then faced UW-Oshkosh's Corey Knudsen in the seventh place match, winning by fall (1:41) to take seventh place.

Facing Luke Smiley of UW-Stevens Point in the 157 consolation round, Ryan Hannah (Fr. – Genoa, WI/Viroqua) was narrowly defeated, falling by a 8-7 decision to move to the seventh place match where he faced Whitewater's Scott Schieldt. Hannah would tally the win to take seventh overall thanks to a pin (2:16).

Wrestling in the 174 consolation bracket, Toby Mosley (Sr. – Sparta, WI) lost to Stevens Point's James Borgen in a 6-2 decision to move into a matchup with Nevin Brittain of Elmhurst in the seventh place bout. The senior recorded an 8-1 decision in his final match to take seventh place.
