Eight Blugolds finish in Top 6 at Don Parker Open

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling program hosted the Don Parker Open on Saturday, with eight Blugolds finishing in the top six.

Chase Schmidt (So. – Rice Lake, WI) lead the Blugolds with a second place finish at 165 pounds, falling in the championship match to Whitewater's Ryan Vedner by a 10-7 decision.

Thomas Severson (Fr. – Marathon, WI/D.C. Everest) took fourth at 133, falling in the third place match to Luther's Brier Babin due to medical forfeit.

Toby Mosley (Sr. – Sparta, WI) took sixth place at 174 after falling to Augsburg's Nick Rogge in the fifth place match by a 10-3 decision.

At 184, Jordan Blanchard (Fr. – Coleman, WI) took fifth place, defeating Augsburg's Dylan Lentz by fall (4:29) while James Huntley (So. – Woodbury, MN/Stillwater) also took fifth place, earning a win by medical forfeit over Lance Benick of Augsburg at 197.

The Blugolds dominated at 285, with Tyler Burt (So. – Beloit, WI) taking third, Austen Hakes (So. – River Falls, WI) placing fourth, and Adam Lucast (Fr. – Lakeville, MN/South) fifth. Burt got the win over Hakes in the third place bout by medical forfeit while Lucast defeated UW-Stevens Point's Ben Gunderson with a 7-4 decision.

Next up for Eau Claire is the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship which the Blugolds will host in the McPhee Center on Friday, Feb. 8th.
