Drexler leads Blugolds at MSOE Invite

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team competed at the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) Invitational on Saturday, with Jake Drexler (Fr. – Stratford, WI) leading the way with a first place finish at 141 pounds.

Drexler earned the top spot on the podium after recording three falls (4:19, 1:40, 0:51) and a 12-1 major decision to finish the day at a perfect 4-0. The newcomer is the first Blugold champion at the MSOE tournament in the past three seasons.

Two other Blugolds made their way to the podium in their respective weight classes. Connor Hanson (Sr. – Harmony, MN/Fillmore Central) took fourth place at 165 as the senior tallied four wins – including one tech fall – while falling twice on the day. Jack Marley (Fr. – Trempealeau, WI/Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau) took sixth place at 125 with a 3-2 record, including a 16-7 major decision and a fall (4:04).

The Blugolds will finally compete at home next week as they host UW-Whitewater on Wednesday night for a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual which will take place in Zorn Arena at 7 p.m. Eau Claire will then host UW-Platteville on Friday night in the McPhee Center and will also begin at 7 p.m.
