No. 8-ranked Warhawks rout Eau Claire in WIAC finale

WHITEWATER, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team faced the No. 8-ranked UW-Whitewater Warhawks in the team's Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) finale on Wednesday night. The Warhawks routed Eau Claire by a score of 36-7 as they limited the Blugolds to winning only two matches.

The Warhawks earned bonus points in five bouts, which included three pinfall victories, a technical fall, and a major decision.

Eau Claire was victorious in back-to-back matches at 157- and 165-pounds. Seth Vosters (So.-Freedom, WI) got the Blugolds on the board with a dominant 12-0 major decision over Whitewater's Isaiah Vela at 157. Chase Schmidt (Fr.-Rice Lake, WI) followed that up with his 26th win on the season, a 10-3 decision against Ryder Sigler.

The loss moves Eau Claire's overall dual meet record to 10-6 on the year with a record of 2-3 in the WIAC.

The Blugolds conclude the regular season this weekend with a pair of contests at home. On Friday, they host Nebraska Wesleyan in the final dual of the season, and on Saturday, the Don Parker Open takes place from the McPhee Center.
