Blugolds wrestle in day one of Pete Willson-Wheaton Invitational

WHEATON, Ill. (blugolds.com) - On Friday, eight University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestlers competed in the first day of the Pete Willson-Wheaton Invitational. Among the field of 38 teams, this tournament features many of the top wrestlers in Division III across the nation.

After day one, the Blugolds have just one wrestler remaining that will compete for a position on the podium on Saturday. Ramsey Bloy (Jr.-Freedom, WI) went 2-1 on the day with a pinfall and an 11-5 decision win in the 197-pound bracket. His lone loss came to conference opponent, Wesley Schultz of UW-La Crosse, by an 8-5 decision. Bloy will attempt to wrestle back for third place on Saturday and has been guaranteed a top-eight finish.

Also having a strong day was David Dudych (Fr.-West Dundee, IL/Harry D. Jacobs), who picked up three wins at 149-pounds. Dudych scored a pin, technical fall, and decision win before being eliminated.

Seth Vosters (So.-Freedom, WI) added a pair of victories to his record as well, including a big upset win over third-seeded Dylan Steward of Adrian.

Tyler Vogt (Sr.-Owatonna, MN), Tyler Burt (Fr.-Beloit, WI/Beloit Turner), and Jason Huntley (Fr.-Woodbury, MN/Stillwater) each won a match on Friday, too.

Bloy's consolation quarterfinals round is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Blugolds then return to action on Wednesday night in their final conference dual of the season. They travel to face UW-Whitewater at 7:00 p.m.
