MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team faced the top-ranked team in the nation, Augsburg, on Sunday, and the Auggies dominated the dual, winning by a score of 34-3. Despite the lopsided final and Augsburg winning nine matches, a number of them were quite close.

The 12-time national champions and defending runners-up got bonus points in four of the first five matches and were victorious in the first nine bouts of the dual. The lone victory for Eau Claire came at heavyweight, as Tyler Burt (Fr.-Beloit, WI/Beloit Turner) prevented the shutout with his 5-2 win. Burt was tied at two late in the match before earning a penalty point and scoring a takedown in the last five seconds.

Other notable matches included Jordan Meyer (So.-Evansville, WI) and Ramsey Bloy (Jr.-Freedom, WI) receiving only their third and second losses respectively on the season. Meyer led No. 7-ranked and returning All-American David Flynn by a 1-0 score entering the third period before falling 8-3. Bloy took on Lance Benick, who formerly wrestled at Division I Arizona State. Bloy had Benick against the ropes, but ultimately fell late in the match as well, 5-3.

Seth Vosters (So.-Freedom, WI) returned to the lineup and gave No. 1-ranked and returning All-American Lucas Jeske all he could handle as well. After falling behind 9-2 in the first period, Vosters threatened late in the match before dropping an 11-6 decision.

Tyler Vogt (Sr.-Owatonna, MN) lost 3-2 to No. 6-ranked Tanner Vassar at 174-pounds, while Evan Lawrence (Fr.-Hugo, MN/Mahtomedi) lost a close 6-4 decision as well at 184-pounds.

Next up for the Blugolds is the Pete Willson Invitational at Wheaton College on January 26-27. They then conclude the month with a conference dual at UW-Whitewater on January 31.
