Wrestlers go 3-0 at Chicago Duals

CHICAGO, Ill. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team concluded the 2017 portion of their season with a trio of victories on Saturday at the Chicago Duals. With the three wins, the Blugolds will take a 7-2 dual record into the new year.

Eau Claire defeated Marian College, Wabash, and Alma on Saturday. They topped Marian 28-18, Wabash 26-19, and Alma 45-6.

In the opener, the Blugolds won seven matches, getting bonus points from Jordan Meyer (So.-Evansville, WI), Carter Focht (Sr.-Pine Springs, MN/Mahtomedi), Hunter DeLeon (So.-Anoka, MN), Cecil Philson (Sr.-Thorp, WI), and Ramsey Bloy (Jr.-Freedom, WI). Meyer received a forfeit, Focht got a pin, Philson a technical fall, and major decisions for DeLeon and Bloy.

Against Wabash, Meyer added six points again with a fall, while Bloy earned a pinfall as well. Philson earned bonus points once again, too, with a major decision. Tyler Vogt (Sr.-Owatonna, MN) also picked up a major decision in the win.

The Blugolds wrestled their best in the final match of the day. As they did all day long, they gave up six points with a forfeit at 125-pounds. Against Alma, Eau Claire failed to lose a single match from there. Focht earned his second pin on the day, while Vogt and Tyler Burt (Fr.-Beloit, WI/Beloit Turner) got pins at 174-pounds and heavyweight. The biggest win of the match went to Jordan Meyer, who put a 16-7 beatdown on the No. 3-ranked 141-pounder in the nation, Brendan Ladd.

Eau Claire's next competitions will occur out east, as they travel to Pennsylvania for the Waynesburg Invitational on January 6 and the Budd Whitehill Duals in Williamsport on January 12-13.
