Eagles top Blugolds in wrestling home opener

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team opened up their dual season on Wednesday night against the UW-La Crosse Eagles. The Eagles defeated the Blugolds in Eau Claire's home opener by a score of 34-6.

La Crosse jumped out to a big lead, getting pins in the first two weight classes. Eau Claire answered back at 141-pounds. Jordan Meyer (So.-Evansville, WI) continued his unbeaten start to the season with an 11-4 decision. The sophomore threatened late to earn the major decision, but time ran out, keeping the team score at 12-3.

The Eagles strung together five straight wins from there, picking up three decisions, a major, and a technical fall.

At 197-pounds, Ramsey Bloy (Jr.-Freedom, WI) looked excellent in his debut with the Blugolds. The transfer pushed a high pace in the match and turned it up in the third period. Bloy won his match, 14-7.

The dual concluded with La Crosse winning their eighth match of the night, a major decision at heavyweight.

Next up for the Blugolds is a conference dual with UW-Oshkosh. On Saturday, Eau Claire hosts the Chancellor's Cup III. The match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
