Wrestlers Compete at Border Brawls

WHITEWATER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin Eau Claire wrestling team headed to UW-Whitewater to participate in the Border Brawl on Saturday.  The Blugolds battled to some close defeats but ultimately failed to come away with a victory on the day. 

Results

In the first round, the Blugolds were defeated by UW-Whitewater by a score of 27-15. Getting wins in the first round were Nathaniel Behnke (Sr.- Bruce, WI) over Matt Adcock in overtime 5-1 and Justin Karkula (Jr.- Oshkosh, WI/ West) over Jordan Festge by fall (0:46).

In round two, the Blugolds got off to a good start but fell to North Central (IL) 25-18. Coming away with wins in the second round were Zackary Sirny (Jr.- Wild Rose, WI) when he defeated Jeffery Cook by fall (0:28) and Nathaniel Behnke with a major decision 10-0 over Layten Binion. Also getting wins in the second round were Roy Munroe (Sr.- Cadott, WI) with a 9-7 decision over Ben Williamson and Ryan Behnke (Jr.- Bruce, WI) over Matt Marcotte by technical fall 22-5. 

The Blugolds had another close defeat as they fell to Olivet 22-18 in the third round. Nathaniel Behnke wrapped up a successful day for himself with a major decision over Curtis Blackwell 13-5. Also getting wins in the third round for the Blugolds were Roy Munroe with a 16-0 technical fall over Matthew Lopez and Justin Karkula as he defeated Jess Judge by fall (2:50).

The Blugolds return to action when they travel to UW-Platteville on February 2.
