ROCHESTER, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team opened the 2015-16 season at the Yellowjacket Open on Sunday, with strong performances from several wrestlers.
Roy Munroe (Fr.-Cadott, WI) led the Blugolds with a first place finish at 157 pounds. Munroe went 4-0 on the day, defeating Patrick Kelley of Southwest MN State by major decision (10-0) in the first round, Coltan Laganiere of Rochester Community College by fall (3:44) in the second, Brent Evans of Mankato by decision (7-6) in the third round and won the championship match by fall (2:55) over Nathan Harms of Northland Community College.
Jeremy Amundson (Fr.-Osceola, WI) also had a strong showing for UW-Eau Claire, taking second at 197 pounds. Amundson posted wins over Phillip Jackson of Northland CC by fall (2:12) and Nick Pegelow of Saint John's by technical fall, 17-1.
The Blugolds will be back in action Friday, Nov. 6 as they take on Concordia (WI) at the Wisconsin Wrestling Coaches Association (WWCA) convention.
