Blugold Wrestlers go 1-2 at Lakeland Duals

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Competing three times at the Lakeland College Duals today, the UW-Eau Claire wrestling team went 1-2 to record its first team victory of the season.

Eau Claire fell 28-15 to Lakeland in the first dual but then bounced back to win the second over MSOE 25-18. In the final match of the day, the Blugolds fell to 28th-ranked Wheaton College (Ill.) 34-13.

Two Blugolds picked up three victories on the day.

Competing at 141 pounds, Nathaniel Behnke (So.-Bruce, Wis.), ranked ninth nationally, won his opening match against Lakeland with a pin in 1:36. He then won by forfeit against MSOE and followed with an 8-2 win facing Wheaton.

At 149 pounds, Ryan Seidler (Sr.-Adams, Wis./Adams-Friendship) also won three times. He started the day with a 10-6 win against Lakeland, then won 16-0 over MSOE before ending the day with a 14-5 win against Wheaton.

Three other Blugolds won two out of three matches as well.

The win today was the Blugolds first of the year as they now hold a 1-9 overall record in dual meets.

Next up, the Blugolds will be at the Matman Invitational, hosted by Cornell College (Iowa), on January 18.
