Verstegen scores twice as Blugolds tally fourth shutout of the week

SUPERIOR, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The No. 5 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team earned their third shutout in as many days on Sunday night, defeating UW-Superior in non-conference action by a score of 4-0 with three Blugolds tallying two or more points.

Hattie Verstegen (So. - Oshkosh, WI/North) scored her first goal of the night at 19:12 of the first thanks to assists from Emily Hart (Jr. – Red Wing, MN) and Taylar Meier (So. – River Falls, WI/Columbine). Verstegen would tally the next Blugold goal as well, this one coming at 19:38 of the second with another assist from Meier and from Sadie Long (Fr. – Farmington, MN).

In the third, Superior natives Emma Peterson (Sr. - Superior, WI) and Addie Young (Sr. – Superior, WI) would connect for Eau Claire's third goal, with Peterson finding the back of the net at 8:27. Three minutes later, Meier would get her third point of the night with a goal at 11:46 with Long getting credit for the assist, her second of the evening.

The Blugolds would out-shoot the Yellowjackets 31-20 on the night and won 28 of 47 faceoffs.

Stephanie Martin (Sr.- Yorktown, VA/Tabb) picked up her 16th win in goal, stopping all 20 shots she faced and improves to 16-10-0 on the season.

Eau Claire (21-2-0, 8-0-0 WIAC) will be back on the road Friday night as they travel to UW-River Falls for a 7:05 puck drop.
