
MOORHEAD, Minn. (blugolds.com) – The No. 2 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team traveled to Moorhead on Friday to take on the Concordia-Moorhead Cobbers for a weekend series. Friday's contest saw the two teams battle it out in overtime with the Cobbers coming out on top 3-2, giving the Blugolds their first loss of the season.
Emma Peterson (Sr. - Superior, WI) got things going in the first period, scoring at the 13:47 mark with assists from Samantha Scherling (Jr.- Rogers, MN) and Hallie Sheridan (Jr. - Fergus Falls, MN).
In the second, Addie Young (Sr. – Superior, WI) took advantage of a Blugold power play, lighting the lamp at 11:53. Emily Hart (Jr. – Red Wing, MN) and Bree Osborne (Sr.- West St. Paul, MN/Cretin-Derham Hall) would be credited with assists on the goal.
The third period would be all Concordia, as they would score two power play goals to even the score at 2 and force overtime.
In OT, Concordia would score the game-winner at 3:49, snapping the Blugolds' 11-game win streak.
Eau Claire out-shot the Cobbers 37-20 in the contest and won 35 faceoffs to Concordia's 21. But the Cobbers were 2-for-5 on the powerplay while the Blugolds were 1-for-4.
Netminder Stephanie Martin (Sr.- Yorktown, VA/Tabb) recorded 17 saves in the loss and falls to 8-1-0 on the season.
Eau Claire (11-1-0, 3-0-0 WIAC) and Concordia (6-4-0, 2-4-0 MIAC) faceoff again on Saturday with the puck drop scheduled for 2 p.m.
