Women's Hockey defeats Hamline 3-2 for eighth-straight win

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The No. 3 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team faced off against Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) foe, Hamline University (Minn.) for a back-and-forth battle on Tuesday night. Eau Claire would come out on top against the Minnesota opponent with a 3 to 2 victory.

In the first period both teams would battle it out for the first goal but would be evenly match with both shots and saves. The period would end with the score tied at 0 to 0.

The Blugolds in the second period would be the first on the board with an unassisted goal from Hanna Zavoral (Sr.-St. Paul, MN/Highland Park) 1:55. However, the Pipers would answer with a power play goal less than a minute after and tallied a second goal at 5:32 to give them the lead.

Eau Claire's Emily Hart (Jr.-Red Wing, MN/) would tie it up at 17:11 with assists from Dehli Heikes (Jr.-Hermantown, MN/) and Danielle Slominski (Jr.-Becker, MN/Princeton) heading into the third period.

Eau Claire would break the tie at 11:58 of the third with a pass from Lilli Armstrong (Fr.-Steamboat Springs, CO/New Hampton Prep School) to Drew Deanovich (Jr.-Fond du Lac, WI/Fond du Lac). Hamline would put the pressure on late, but the Blugold defense would hold to secure the win. The Blugolds would outshoot the Pipers 36-28.

Stephanie Martin (Sr.- Yorktown, VA/Tabb) would earn her fifth win in net this season, stopping 26 of the 28 she faced from the Pipers.

Eau Claire (8-0-0, 3-0-0) will be back in action on the road this weekend as they travel to Lake Forest, Illinois for back-to-back games against Lake Forest College. The first Friday, November 26th at 7 PM and Saturday, November 27th at 4 PM.
