Eau Claire, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team hosted the Northland College Lumberjills on Friday evening at Hobbs Ice Center. The Blugolds would shutout the Jills on home ice with a late goal and a 1-0 win.
In all three periods, the Blugolds would dominate the ice outshooting the Jills 53-9. With many chances both at even strength and on special teams, the home squad could not figure out the Northland goalie.
Late in the final frame, Morgan Zirbel (Jr. – Green Bay, WI/Ashwaubenon) would break the tie and get credit for the games lone goal. Dehli Heikes (Fr. – Hermantown, MN) would get credit for the lone assist on the goal as well.
Goaltender Erin Connolly (Sr. – Mequon, WI/Homestead) stopped all 9 shots she faced and increases her record to 16-1-2.
The two team will square off again on Saturday at Hobbs Ice Arena with a 2 p.m. start.
