Eau Claire, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team was back in action Friday night as they hosted Lake Forest College in the first game of a weekend series. After falling behind late in the first period, the Blugolds surged back with three unanswered goals for their fifth home win of the season.

Box Score

The tying goal would come just moments after the opening Lake Forest tally as Ella Ierino (So. – Duluth, MN) would gather a rebound in the slot and poke it through traffic to even things up.

With an even stretch of play lasting the entire second period, it would be the Eau Claire special teams to get things going. Emma Peterson (Jr. – Superior, WI) would find space on the backside of the net and cash in a one-timer on the powerplay to give the Blugolds the 2-1 lead. It would count as the 19th goal scored while on a player advantage this season.

The Eau Claire captain, Elizabeth Bauer (Sr. – Wausau, WI/East) would extend the lead with a goal of her own to seal the game late in the third period.

Goaltender Erin Connolly (Sr. – Mequon, WI/Homestead) saved 19 of the 20 shots she faced and improved her season record to 9-1-1.

The Blugolds will take back to the ice tomorrow, Saturday, January 11th at 2pm to play the final game of the weekend series. Puck drop is scheduled for 2PM.
