No. 6 Blugolds skate to 1-1 tie with No. 10 Tommies

Eau Claire, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team took to the road once again this weekend as the traveled to Lake Forest, IL for the 2019 Lake Forest Invite. The tournament featured three nationally ranked teams and No. 6 Eau Claire would take on No. 10 University of St. Thomas in the first round of the weekend. With both teams looking for ranked wins, the two Midwest powers would skate to an eventual 1-1 tie.

With no score in the first period, it would be the Tommies getting on the board first just before the halfway mark of the contest. The Blugolds, who have scored first in almost every away game, would battle back just before the middle frame ended.

With just under five minutes to go in the second period, Ella Ierino (So. – Duluth, MN) would tie things up for Eau Claire. Emily Hart (Fr. – Red Wing, MN) would get credit for the primary assist to send both teams into the final period tied.  

Neither team would find the breaking point before the third and overtime periods hit zeros, concluding the game in a 1-1 tie.

Erin Connolly (Sr. – Mequon, WI/Homestead) stopped 17 of the 18 shots she faced to bring her career average up to 92.6% and a season record of 5-1-1.

The Blugolds will head back to the ice Saturday, November 30th as they take on the Elmira College Soaring Eagles at 12:30PM.
