Women's Hockey dominates Pointers in 9-1 win

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugold.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire score 5 goals in the first period on their way to a dominating 9-1 win over UW-Stevens Point at Hobbs Ice Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Eau Claire wasted no time getting a goal on the board as Emma Peterson (So.-Superior, WI) scored 53 seconds from the puck drop. Shortly after, Holly Turnbull (Sr-Hayward, WI) tallied another adding to the Blugold lead. Courtney Wittig (Sr-Green Bay, WI/Bay Port), Bree Osborn (So-West St. Paul, MN/Cretin Derham Hall) and Hanna Zavoral (So-St. Paul, MN/Highland Park) joined the scoring party to give the Blugolds a 5-0 lead heading into intermission.

Zavoral started the second period with her second goal of the game while Morgan Zirbel (So-Green Bay, WI/Ashwaubenon) added the seventh Blugold goal. Elizabeth Bauer (Jr-Wausau, WI/East) skated down on a breakaway to end the period with an 8-0 Eau Claire lead.

In the third, the Pointers finally got a goal on the board but Wittig would answer with her second goal of the night to seal the 9-1 win.

The Blugolds outshot the Pointers 36-20 while Erin Connolly (Jr-Mequon, WI/Homestead) earned the win in goal, recording 19 saves.
