Blugolds down Pointers, 4-1

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey traveled to face WIAC opponent University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Friday night. Eau Claire would come back home with a 4 to 1 victory over the Pointers.

The Blugolds maintained possession early and Holly Turnbull (Sr-Hayward, WI/Hayward) got the scoring going early with an unassisted goal at 8:51. However, the Pointers came back with a minute to go to tie the game 1 to 1 to end the first period.

After a couple penalties in the second, Courtney Wittig (Sr-Green Bay, WI/Bay Port) tallied a power play goal with assists from Turnbull and Elizabeth Bauer (Jr-Wausau, WI/East). And the scoring didn't stop there in the second as Hanna Zavoral (So-St. Paul, MN/Highland Park) recorded the third goal of the night, ending the second period with the Blugolds leading 3 to 1.

In the third period it didn't take long for Kelly Knetter (Sr-Wausau, WI/West) to find the back of the net for the fourth and final goal for the Blugolds.

Eau Claire (16-4-2, 5-1 WIAC) will look to earn the regular season sweep over the Pointers Saturday at Hobbs Ice Arena at 2 p.m. Continue to follow the action on Blugold Game Day or on the 'UWEC Blugolds' app.
