EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team completed their weekend double header on Saturday afternoon as they hosted UW-Superior at Hobbs Ice Arena. With a win the previous night in Superior, the Blugolds kept to their winning ways and came out with a 5-0 win.

Box Score

In the first period, the Blugolds came out with a commanding start, scoring just three minutes into the game. Elizabeth Bauer (Jr. – Wausau, WI/East) would find the rebound out in front and net her sixth goal of the year. Eau Claire would outshoot Superior 14 to 8 in the first frame to maintain a competitive advantage. Just a little past the halfway mark, the Blugolds would score back to back rebounds goals just minutes apart from each other. Lexi Wilson (Sr. – Eagan, MN) and Kelly Knetter (Sr. – Wausau, WI/West) would both get credit for a goal apiece to put Eau Claire up by three.

The second period would see a much more even matchup with both sides recording 11 shots. The Blugolds would once again find the back of the net as Monica Sjodin (Sr. – Anoka, MN) would skate to the middle and fire it in the top corner to extend the lead to four. The rest of the period would see special teams play, but neither team could find a powerplay goal all game. Sami Meister (Jr. – Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) would get the final Blugold goal with just one second left in the game.

Erin Connolly (Jr. – Mequon, WI/Homestead) would save all of the 26 shots she faced. She improves her record to 11-3-2 and earns herself her 4th shutout of the year and her 7th home win of the season.

The Blugolds (13-4-2, 3-1 WIAC) will have a quick turnaround as they head to Minnesota on Tuesday to face off against St. Olaf College. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.  Follow the action on Blugold Game Day or on the 'UWEC Blugolds' app on your mobile device.
