Women's Hockey comes up short against Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team took to the road Friday, taking on Lake Forest College in the first game of the weekend double header. In a hard-fought battle, Eau Claire would fall, 3-1.

Despite outscoring the Foresters 15-8 in the opening period, Lake Forest would strike first, scoring at 6:39 of the first period, and would make it a two-goal lead midway through the second.

The Blugolds would continue to put pressure on the Lake Forest defense, keeping the puck in the Foresters' end most of the period. It would pay off as Courtney Wittig (Sr. – Green Bay, WI/Bayport) would score the only goal for the Blugolds and her 12th of the season on the powerplay. Sami Meister (Jr. – Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) and Holly Turnbull (Sr-Hayward, WI/Hayward) would tally assists on the goal.

However, Lake Forest would seal the win with an empty net goal with 16 seconds remaining to hand Eau Claire their fourth loss of the season.

Eau Claire outshot Lake Forest 14-5 in the third period to finish with a 37-17 advantage for the game.

Erin Connolly (Jr. – Mequon, WI/Homestead) took the loss in goal, recording 14 saves on the night and falls to 7-3-2 on the season.
