Wittig drafted 11th overall in NWHL draft

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Courtney Wittig (Sr. – Green Bay, WI/Bayport) of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team has been drafted by the Metropolitan Riveters of the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL).

Wittig was selected in the third round and was the eleventh overall pick. The senior leads the Blugolds with 11 goals so far this season and is second on the team with 17 points in 12 games played.

The NWHL is the first professional women's hockey league in North America and had it's inaugural season in the fall of 2015. Wittig is the first NCAA Division III player to be drafted.

The top five picks of this year's draft were all members of the United States National Team, including Wisconsin's Annie Pankowski. Only players completing their final season of college eligibility were eligible to be drafted by the NWHL teams. Order of selection was determined by the current standings of this season.
