Blugolds earn first shutout in dominating fashion

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey played their first road game of the season on Sunday, coming away with an 8-0 win over Marian University for their first win of the season.

The Blugolds would score early and often as Kelly Knetter (Sr. – Wausau, WI/East) would tally the first goal just 4:30 into the first period. Addie Young (Fr. – Superior, WI) would get credit for the lone assist for her first point as a Blugold. Eau Claire wouldn't stop there as Ellie Burris (So. - Mound Westonka, MN) would score the second goal and assist on the third goal just seconds later. With a total of five goals in the first period, Holly Turnbull (Sr. – Hayward, WI) would record three of her five points on the day in the first period of play.

With just a single goal in the second period, Courtney Wittig (Sr. – Green Bay, WI/Bay Port) would score against her former team on the powerplay at the 13-minute mark. It would be the first of two powerplay goals as Eau Claire went 2 for 4 on the player advantage for the game.

The Blugolds would score a pair in the third period as they totaled 39 shots after 60 minutes of play. Elizabeth Bauer (Jr. – Wausau, WI/East) and Emily Bauer (Jr. – Wausau, WI/East) both had multipoint games as they would combine for 2 goals and 5 assists together.

On the back end, Erin Connolly (Jr. – Mequon, WI/Homestead) stopped all 18 shots she faced, earned her first shutout of the year, and recorded her first win of the 2018-19 season improving to 1-1-0.
