Czech scores twice as Blugolds earn sweep over UWSP

Box Score

After a 2-1 overtime win last night, the Blugolds looked to carry their momentum into Ice Hawks Arena. While Friday night's game was scoreless through the first two periods, Saturday's game proved to be a different story in the opening frame.

Czech got things rolling, lighting the lamp just a minute and a half into the game for an unassisted goal. But the lead wouldn't last long as the Pointers tied it up at the 15:44 mark of the first period.

The second period would be a defensive battle, with neither team able to score. The third period started the same and it looked like overtime would be needed yet again, but the Blugolds would take advantage of a late power play as Czech scored her second goal of the game at 16:41 thanks to assists from Morgan Zirbel (Fr. – Green Bay, WI/Ashwaubenon) and Kelly Knetter (Jr. – Wausau, WI/West).

Once again, the Blugolds out-shot their opponent, 30-20 while Erin Connolly (So. - Mequon, WI/Homestead) earned the win in goal, collecting 19 saves on the day.

The Blugolds (14-6-3, 3-3-1 WIAC) have two remaining Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) games left, both against WIAC-leading UW-River Falls who currently sit at 16-4-2 and 5-1-1 in the WIAC.  Eau Claire will travel to River Falls for a 2 p.m. matchup on Feb. 10 and will host the Falcons for the regular season finale at Hobbs Ice Arena on Feb. 17, also at 2 p.m.  Follow the action on Blugold Game Day.
