Blugolds skate to tie with Superior

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team hosted UW-Superior on Saturday night, skating to a 2-2 tie in overtime.

For the second night in a row, the Yellowjackets scored first to take an early lead despite the Blugolds out-shooting the 'Jackets 6-4 in the opening period.

In the second, Superior added their second power play goal of the night at the 7:13 mark.

Eau Claire would get on the board with just 13 second left in the period as Mariah Czech (Sr. – Andover, MN) found the back of the net off assists from Kelly Knetter (Jr. – Wausau, WI/West) and Jaedyn Walz (Sr. – Woodbury, MN/East Ridge).

Courtney Wittig (Jr. – Green Bay, WI/Bay Port) would tie things up late in the third, thanks to assists from Morgan Zirbel (Fr.-Green Bay, WI/Ashwaubenon) and Elizabeth Bauer (So. – Wausau, WI/East).

Overtime would be a defensive battle as the game would end knotted at 2.

The Blugolds led in shots 12-4 in the second period, 14-5 in the third but did not get a shot in overtime to finish with a 32-15 advantage for the game.

Erin Connolly (So. - Mequon, WI/Homestead) (10-4-3) got the start in net yet again, recording 13 saves.
