Blugolds skate past Cobbers

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team hosted Concordia-Moorhead on Tuesday night, defeating the Cobbers by a score of 4-2.

The Cobbers got on the board first at 10:20 of the first period but it wouldn't take long for Eau Claire to respond.

Jada Ward (Fr. – Sun Prairie, WI) went top shelf for her first goal as a Blugold to tie the score at one off an assist from Taylor Treu (Fr. – Wausau, WI/West).

Eau Claire would take the lead less than a minute into the second period when Jaedyn Walz (Sr. – Woodbury, MN/East Ridge) scored on the power play thanks to an assist from Kelly Knetter (Jr. – Wausau, WI/West).

Knetter would score a goal of her own at 15:50, putting away a rebound in the front of the net. Elizabeth Bauer (So. – Wausau, WI/East) would earn the assist on the play.

Moorhead would cut the lead to one with a power play goal of their own at 19:43, but Bauer would seal the win with a goal at 9:54 in the third with an assist from Courtney Wittig (Jr. – Green Bay, WI/Bay Port).

Eau Claire out-shot Moorhead 43-22 on the night while goaltender Erin Connolly (So. – Mequon, WI/Homestead) tallied 20 saves.

The Blugolds (4-2-1) will be back on the road Saturday as they travel to Winona, Minn. to take on Saint Mary's at 7 p.m. Follow the action on Blugold Game Day.
