Blugolds tie with Gusties

ST. PETER, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team went on the road Saturday, coming away with a 2-2 tie in overtime with Gustavus Adolphus.

The Blugolds got on the board first as Emily Bauer (So. – Wausau, WI/East) found the back of the net off an assist from twin Elizabeth Bauer (So. – Wausau, WI/East) at 7:22 of the first period.

The Gusties evened the score five minutes into the second period but Eau Claire reclaimed the lead with just 11 seconds left before intermission. The goal was Kelly Knetter's first of the year and Jaedyn Walz (Sr. – Woodbury, MN/East Ridge) and Kelly Knetter (Jr. – Wausau, WI/West) were credited with assists.

Gustavus tied it up at 3:01 in the third to send the game into overtime, but neither team could score and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.

The Blugolds out-shot the Gusties 27-21 while goaltender Erin Connolly (Mequon, WI/Homestead) recorded 19 saves.

The Blugolds (2-0-1) will be back on the road next week as they travel to Northfield, Minn. Wednesday to take on the St. Olaf Oles at 7:30 p.m. Follow the action on Blugold Game Day.
