Women’s Hockey scores two unanswered goals to secure win over Finlandia

HANCOCK, Mich. (Blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team started the 2016-17 season with a win over Finlandia University on Friday night, 2-1.

After allowing a short-handed goal in the first period, the Blugolds would answer just three minutes later as Jaedyn Walz (Jr.-Woodbury, MN) scored Eau Claire's first goal of the season. Sydney Schneider (Jr.-Chippewa Falls, WI) and Emma Silkey (Sr.-Chaska, MN) tallied assists on the goal.

It was then Kelly Knetter (So.-Wausau, WI) scoring the go-ahead goal off assists from
Lexi Wilson
(So.-Eagan, MN) and Walz at 11:14 in the second period.

On the night, the Blugolds outshot the Lions 45 to 10.

Freshmen goaltender Erin Connolly (Mequon, WI) earned her first victory as a Blugold and starts her year 1-0.

Eau Claire and Finlandia will face-off again on Saturday at 2 p.m.
