Women's Hockey Shuts Out Yellowjackets

SUPERIOR, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team battled the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellow Jackets on Friday night for another WIAC game with the Blugolds defeating the Yellowjackets, 1-0.

The Blugolds jumped out to an early lead as Monica Sjodin (Fr.-Anoka, Minn.) flew past defense to secure a power-play goal with assists by Ashley Baugher (Sr.-Crystal Lake, Ill.) and Danielle Lucker (Fr.-Little Canada, Minn.) to put the one and only tally on the board at 14:20.

The second and third periods saw tough defense from Eau Claire as they kept their lead of 1-0 and holding off the Superior offense.

Lauren Norgren (So.-Fergus Falls, Minn.) was on fire for the Eau Claire offensive line tonight with five shots on goal.

Eau Claire's Paige Turner (Sr.-Iron River, Wis. /Duluth East) was in the net tonight and held the Blugolds in the winning spot after exhibiting some impressive goal tending skills with 28 saves against UW- Superior.

Eau Claire (9-7-4, 2-3-2) matches up against UW-Superior (7-7-4, 1-4-2) again on Saturday night for another WIAC conference game. The puck drops at 7 p.m. at Hobbs Ice Arena.
