Women’s Hockey Ties Sixth-Ranked Stevens Point

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Coming off its first win of the season, the UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team had a one-goal lead against sixth-ranked Stevens Point in the third period and eventually tied the Pointers 3-3 here tonight at Hobbs Ice Center.

The Blugolds are 1-8-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the WIAC while the Pointers stand at 7-2-1 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play.  It was the first tie between both schools since December 10, 2011 which also ended 3-3.  The Pointers are currently ranked sixth in the latest USCHO.com NCAA Division III National Poll.

The Pointers scored the game's first goal at 12:29 of the first period but the Blugolds answered when Andi Husted (Sr.-Scottsdale, AZ/Shattuck St. Mary's) scored her first goal of the season at 13:41 assisted by Ashley Baugher (Jr.-Crystal Lake, IL/Central) and Jaedyn Walz (Fr.-Woodbury, MN/East Ridge) tying the game at 1-1.

Starting the second period down 2-1 Paige Dale (So.-Andover, MN) scored her fourth goal of the season at 19:47 assisted by Katie Burkey (So.-Ramsey, MN/Anoka) evening the score at 2-2.

Dale gave the Blugolds a 3-2 lead at 3:07 of the third period assisted by Amanda Kane (Sr.-Maplewood, MN/North St. Paul).  It was Dale's fifth goal and second power play goal of the season, leading the team in both categories.

Stevens Point tied the game 3-3 at 13:54 of the third period to force overtime.  The five-minute extra session produced no goals as both teams earned a point in the WIAC conference standings.

Goalie Paige Turner (Jr.-Iron River, WI/Duluth East) saved 37 shots between the pipes.  Her season record now stands at 1-6-1.

Eau Claire was outshot by the Pointers 40-26.  The Blugold penalty kill held the Pointers scoreless on five power play attempts while converting on one of five power play opportunities.

The Blugolds will face the Pointers tomorrow evening in Stevens Point.  Face-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
