Women's Hockey Blanked by Nationally-Ranked Superior

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Playing against eighth-ranked UW-Superior for the second day in a row, the UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team lost by an identical score to last night, 5-0, at Hobbs Ice Center this afternoon.

In today's game, Superior scored two goals in the opening period and followed with three in the second period.

It took Superior just over four minutes to score its first goal, which eventually proved to be the game-winner. All five of the Yellowjacket goals came even-strength.

Paige Turner (So.-Iron River, Wis./Duluth East) started in-goal for Eau Claire and played the first two periods before Kim Van Brunt (So.-Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines) played the third period for the Blugolds. Turner stopped 15 shots while Van Brunt stopped seven. Superior outshot Eau Claire 27-14.

Each teams finished with five penalties for 10 minutes but both teams went 0-for-5 on power-plays.

Eau Claire drops to 3-14-2 overall and 0-7-1 in the conference while Superior improves to 14-2-4 on the season and 4-2-2 in WIAC play.

Next up, the Blugolds will be home against Hamline University (Minn.) on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
