Women's Hockey Falls at Saint Mary's

WINONA, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – After scoring 10 goals in two games last weekend, the UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team was unable to find the back of the net as the Blugolds fell 3-0 at Saint Mary's University (Minn.) today.

The two teams went scoreless through the first two periods as the Cardinals outshot the Blugolds 35-16.

In the third period, the Cardinals got on the board at 6:01 and scored again 16 seconds later to take a two-goal lead. Saint Mary's got a final goal with less than seven minutes to play and was able to hang on for the win.

Paige Turner (So.-Iron River, Wis./Duluth East) played the entire game in-goal for the Blugolds and stopped 49 out of 52 shots. The Blugolds finished the game with 21 shots as Emily Larson (Sr.-Bemidji, Minn.) led Eau Claire with six shots.

The teams combined for 13 penalties, seven on Eau Claire and six on the Cardinals. The Blugolds went 0-for-5 on power-plays while Saint Mary's went 0-for-6.

Eau Claire drops to 3-10-2 overall while Saint Mary's improves to 3-8-0.

The Blugolds will be home Saturday, facing Saint Mary's at 2 p.m.
