Blugolds start 2018 season with win over Gusties

SAINT PETER, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's gymnastics team opened the 2018 season with a win on Saturday, defeating Gustavus Adolphus College 181.275 to 175.800.

The Blugolds won three of the four events, out-scoring the Gusties on the vault, beam and floor exercise and claimed the top spots in all four. Leading the way for the Blugolds was Hannah Lewis (Jr. – Saline, MI), who tallied a personal best on bars with a 9.6, which also places her in a tie for third in program history.

Tori Erickson (Sr. – Woodbury, MN) and Andrea Gessner (Fr. Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial) took the top two spots on the vault, scoring a 9.375 and 9.300, respectively.

The Blugolds also went 1-2 in the floor exercise, with Kiya Bjorge (Jr. - Kennewick, WA/Southridge) recording a 9.275 and Hannah Wendel (Jr. – Brandon, MN/Alexandria Area) scoring a 9.150.

Eau Claire dominated on the balance beam, claiming the top four spots. Bjorge earned her second event win with a 9.575 and was followed by Lauralynn Anderson (Jr. – West Bend, WI/homeschool) and Erickson who both scored a 9.425 while Clare Mascia (Jr. – Woodbury, MN/Convent of the Visitation) tallied a 9.400.
