Gymnasts Second at UW-Whitewater Meet

WHITEWATER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's gymnastics team finished second at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater meet on Saturday, tallying an overall team score of 184.625.

Clare Mascia (Fr.-Woodbury, MN/Convent of the Visitation) was the highest finisher for the Blugolds, tying for second on the balance beam with a score of 9.725; setting a career high for the freshman.  Lauralynn Anderson (Fr.-West Bend, WI/Home school) also set a career high and along with teammate Tori Erickson (So.-Woodbury, MN/Woodbury), also placed in the top 10 for Eau Claire, tying for fifth with scores of 9.600. Destiny Cobbs also did well on the beam for Eau Claire, earning a career high of 9.600.

On the floor exercise, Liz Stubbs (Sr.-Wayzata, MN) performed a great routine, placing fourth and earning a score of 9.525 while Lauren Zurowski (So.-Greenfield, WI/Whitnall) tied for eighth with a 9.350.

In the uneven parallel bars, Jessica Dhaene (Jr.-Stacy, MN/Forest Lake Area), Bailey Peter (So.-Wausau, WI/DC Everest) tied for fifth place, recording scores of 9.400. Teammate Julia Stedman (Sr.-Maplewood, MN/North St. Paul) was 11th with a 9.175.

The Blugolds will be back in action at home on Friday, January 29 as they host Hamline at 6:00 p.m. in the McPhee Center.
