Three Blugolds Named WIAC Athletes of the Week

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Three UW-Eau Claire student-athletes have been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week, WIAC Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations Matt Stanek announced today.

Recognized this week were gymnast Rachel Behmer (Sr.-Maple Grove, Minn./West Lutheran), men's track member Thurgood Dennis (So.-Allouez, Wis./Green Bay Notre Dame) and men's hockey player Jordan Singer (Sr.-Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial).

Behmer helped lead the Blugolds to a 183.550-181.925 victory over UW-Oshkosh on Feb. 8, at Kolf Sports Center.  She tied for first in the uneven parallel bars with a season-high 9.475.

Competing at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa, on Feb. 9, Dennis tied his own school record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.56 as he took fourth.  The mark is the fastest time in the WIAC this year.  He also ran on the 4x400-meter relay team that finished with a school record and the second-fastest time in NCAA Division III as they took eighth with a time of 3:14.67.  The previous school record was 3:16.35.

Playing in two games during the week, Singer helped the Blugolds to their first outright Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) title in program history as the team split.  In a 4-1 victory at UW-Superior on Feb. 9, Singer scored the game's first goal on a power-play, 13 seconds before the end of the first period.  At 7:56 in the second period, he scored what proved to be the game-winner.  For the season, Singer now has 18 goals, most in the NCHA, and 30 points.
