Three Blugold Women’s Golfers Honored by WIAC

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Three members of the UW-Eau Claire women's golf team were recently recognized by the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC), two earning All-WIAC first team honors while the third was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.

Kate Engler (Sr.-Beloit, WI/Turner) earned medalist honors at the WIAC Championship for the second consecutive year joining fellow Blugolds Katie Mauer (2008, 2009) and Maggie Loney (2004, 2005) as the only women's golfers to accomplish such a feet in conference history.  A three-time All-WIAC first team honoree (2012, 2013, 2014), Engler ranked second with a 78.7 stroke average over 11 rounds.  Engler finished the fall season with four top-10 finishes including medalist honors at the WIAC championships, tying for fourth place at the Division III Classic, tying for fifth place at the Wartburg Fall Invitational and tying for eighth place at the UW-Whitewater Fall Invitational.

Emily Stone (Sr.-Eden Prairie, MN) earned All-WIAC honors for the second consecutive season.  Stone concluded fall play with an 81.3 stroke average in 11 rounds of play with her highest finish coming at the UW-Whitewater Fall Invitational where she tied for sixth place.

The team was determined by using the NCAA Division III GolfStat rankings immediately following the conclusion of the conference championship.  A player must have completed eight rounds in order to be eligible.

Mandi Salo (Sr.-Hermantown, MN) was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team for the second time in her career (2012, 2014).  Salo earned an 85.8 stroke average in the fall, fourth best on the team.  At the WIAC Championships Salo finished in 17th place overall.
