EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – UW-Eau Claire women's golf head coach Meghan Sobotta will step down as head coach after serving for four seasons, Director of Athletics Scott Kilgallon announced today.

"It is with great reluctance that I accept the resignation of Meghan Sobotta," Kilgallon said. "Meghan has been a tremendous coach and mentor for her players. I want to thank Meghan for consistently coaching a team which is ranked nationally on an annual basis. Most importantly, I want to thank Meghan for ensuring the academic success and the welfare of her players. I have been fortunate to watch Meghan represent this University as both an All-American golfer and as a great coach and person. I know her players will miss her as well. I want to wish Meghan the best of luck with her future endeavors."

Sobotta took over as head coach on September 5, 2010 following John Means' departure to take an NCAA Division I position at the University of Idaho after coaching the Blugolds for five seasons. Following graduation in 2008, Sobotta had been an assistant for the women's golf team before being named head coach.

During her time as head coach, she led the team to three top-13 finishes at nationals, including tying a school best finish in 2012 (third place). At the 2012 NCAA Championship, Catherine Wagner became the first person in program history to win an individual national title. The Blugolds have also earned five All-American honors during Sobotta's time as head coach.

Sobotta guided the Blugolds to three WIAC titles in four years and a Blugold won medalist honors in both 2010 and 2013 at WIAC Championships.

"I would like to thank Scott, the athletic department, and my girls for the last four years," Sobotta said. "I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked with all of them. My girls have taught me a lot about the game of golf but also many more things bigger than the game itself."

As a Blugold golfer (2004-08), Sobotta was a four-year starter and part of the group that competed at nationals each season she was on the team. Her best finish at nationals came during her senior season as she took fourth place individually. During her freshman year, the team tied for third place overall.

A graduate of Arcadia High School, Sobotta received honors as an All-American three times and was named an All-Region selection four times. She also won WIAC medalist honors in 2007 and was an All-WIAC pick three times.
