INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Blugolds.com) - After winning the WIAC Championship last fall and receiving the conference's automatic bid, the UW-Eau Claire women's golf team will be one of 21 teams to compete at the 2014 NCAA Division III Championship, the NCAA announced today.

View Official Announcement

The championship will be conducted May 13-16 at the El Campeon Golf Course at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. Central Florida Sports Commission and Oglethorpe will serve as hosts.

The Blugolds will be making their 13th overall appearance at nationals. They qualified every year between 2001 and 2012 while one individual competed a season ago. Eau Claire's best finish in history was third place in 2005, 2010 and 2012.

Fifteen conferences were granted automatic qualification and the remaining six teams were selected on an at-large basis from conferences and the remaining independent institutions. Six individuals, not from selected teams, also were selected for the championships.

The championships will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently. The tournament consists of 72 holes of play in four days of competition. In the team competition, the low four scores from each team for each day will count in the team's total score.

In 2013, Mary Hardin-Baylor won its first NCAA Division III Women's Golf championships with a combined score of 1,239 at Baytowne Golf Course in Destin, Florida. Runner-up honors went to Texas-Tyler (1,247). Methodist finished third with a score of 1,259 and George Fox finished fourth with a score of 1,267. Texas-Tyler freshman Laura Lindsay earned medalist honors with a four-shot victory against Kelsey Morrison from George Fox.
