Title: Volunteer Assistant Coach
Season: 11th Year

Peg Johnson enters her first season as a volunteer assistant coach and her 24th season overall with the program. From 2000-2012 she served as the assistant women’s basketball coach at UW-Eau Claire and helped the Blugolds win the WIAC championship in 2001, 2003, 2008, and 2012. She then served as the director of basketball operations from 2013-2023.

Prior to coaching at Eau Claire, Johnson was the head women’s basketball coach at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN from 1992-2000. In 1999, she was named MIAC Coach of the Year. At Gustavus, she was also the senior woman administrator in the athletics department.

Her collegiate basketball career started at Gustavus Adolphus College, where she was a two-year starter and team captain. She was also a three-year letter winner and a two-time Academic All-Conference player.

Johnson earned her B.A. degree and graduated magna cum laude from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1990 with a double major in speech communication and health fitness. In 1998 she received her Master’s degree in physical education with an emphasis in the social and psychological aspects of sport from Minnesota State University-Mankato.

Johnson is entering her 23rd year as a member of the Kinesiology Department at UW-Eau Claire. She currently serves as a Senior Lecturer in the department and teaches exercise science and strength and conditioning courses for KINS majors. She is also the Coaching Minor advisor and also  advises students who are majoring in Exercise Science. She is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and has her CSCS certification (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist).

Johnson is married to Brad and they have two daughters, Kate and Bryn.
