Women's Basketball starts season with 71-33 win over St. Scholastica

DULUTH, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team opened the 2019-20 season with a big win on Friday night, defeating the College of St. Scholastica, 71-33.

Hallee Hoeppner (Sr. – Winona, MN) – last season's Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Player of the Year – picked up where she left off a year ago, scoring a game-high 21 points and pulled down 9 rebounds in just 23 minutes of play. The senior was 8-of-9 from the field and 2-for-2 from behind the arc.

Katie Essen (Jr. – Farmington, MN/Rosemount) followed with nine points after hitting 4-of-6 from the field. Essen also tallied four rebounds along with recording a block and a steal.

The Blugold defense held the Saint so to just 16.7 percent from the field and three-point range (9-of-54 and 3-for-18). Eau Claire also out-rebounded St. Scholastica 62-29.
