Hoeppner’s double-double not enough to end Blugolds’ skid

Menomonie, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team lost their sixth straight in a loss against UW-Stout by a score of 61-74 on Wednesday.

The Blugolds came out with a lead by nine at the half as Hallee Hoeppner (Jr. – Winona, MN) put down 14 while adding eight rebounds.  Eau Claire shot 50 percent from behind the arc in the first half as well, going 4-8. 

The Blue Devils came out strong after the first half only allowing one three-pointer out of the ten that Eau Claire attempted.  The Blugolds were outscored 46-25 in the second half as UW-Stout's Amber Fabeck led the Blue Devils to victory with 17 points in the second half. 

Scoring leaders for the Blugolds were Hoeppner with a game-high 25 points and Katie Essen (So. – Farmington, MN/Rosemount) who chipped in 13.  Hoeppner also had a game-high 12 rebounds. 

The Blue Devils defense stepped up in the contest producing 13 steals versus Eau Claire's seven.  Stout was also able to out-rebound the Blugolds during the contest (48-39).

The Blugolds (13-9, 4-7 WIAC) will return home on Saturday, February 9th at 3:00 p.m. as they will host UW-La Crosse (19-3, 8-3 WIAC). Follow the action on Blugold Game Day or on the 'UWEC Blugolds' app on your mobile device.
