WHITEWATER, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team dropped their fourth straight on Saturday, falling to UW-Whitewater, 68-55.
The Warhawks held an early lead but the Blugolds kept it close, only down 19-14 at the end of the first quarter.
Back-to-back jumpers by Brooke Harris (Jr. – Green Bay, WI/Bay Port) and Kelsey Bakken (Jr. – Marshall, WI) gave Eau Claire their first lead, 20-19 early in the second. The two squads would trade baskets the rest of the quarter until Whitewater drained two three's and a jumper to close out the half and take a 35-28 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, the Blugolds would go nearly four minutes without a score and the Warhawks would maintain their lead the rest of the way for the win.
Bakken and Maddie Dunathan (Sr. – Hortonville, WI) lead Eau Claire with 14 points apiece while Katie Essen (So. – Farmington, MN/Rosemount) chipped in 10. Dunathan also tallied a game-high six assists while Hallee Hoeppner (Jr. – Winona, MN) pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds along with seven points.
