Women's Basketball falls to Eagles, 72-62

LA CROSSE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team fell to UW-La Crosse on Saturday, suffering their first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) loss of the season.

The Eagles jumped to an early lead, scoring the first 19 points of the game. The Blugolds fought back in the second quarter, outscoring La Crosse 23-19 but still trailed 40-28 at the half. The Blugolds surged back in the fourth quarter, starting the frame with an 11-0 run but their comeback would fall short, falling by a score of 72-62.

Kelsey Bakken (Jr. – Marshall, WI) tallied a game-high 19 points while Hallee Hoeppner (Jr. – Winona, MN) followed with 16 points. Maddie Dunathan (Sr. – Hortonville, WI) also finished in double figures, scoring 10 points to go along with five assistant and two steals. Brooke Harris (Jr. – Green Bay, WI/Bay Port) also pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds and chipped in eight points.

Eau Claire finished 21-for-65 from the field (32.3 percent), 6-for-17 from the three-point line and 14-for-17 (82.4 percent) from the charity stripe.
