Women's Basketball falls to Eagles

LA CROSSE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team fell on the road at UW-La Crosse by a score of 62-44.

Anna Graaskamp (Fr. – Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) got things going for the Blugolds scoring the first four points of the game. La Crosse tied the game at six 2:30 into the game.

Kayla Hanley (Jr. – Chippewa Falls, WI) received a pass from Jenni LaCroix (Jr. – Verona, WI) and knocked down a three pointer with one-minute left in the first period to give Eau Claire a 15-14 lead but the quarter ended with La Crosse having a 16-15 advantage.

A Hallee Hoeppner (Fr. – Winona, MN) jumper and a bucket from behind the arc from Maddie Dunathan (So. – Hortonville, WI) gave the Blugolds a 20-16 lead just two minutes in the second period. After that the Eagles went on a run to close out the half. A 12-2 run had La Crosse ahead 28-22 lead at the break.

Eau Claire got on the board first to start the third period, but La Crosse once again went on a run.  The Eagles went a 23-4 runs dating back to the second period, which gave them a 39-24 lead with four minutes in the quarter.

Bree Meier (Sr. – Lakeville, MN/South) found the bottom of the net on a shot from deep that pulled the Blugolds back within 10 at the end of the third quarter, but that was as close as Eau Claire would get. La Crosse closed out the game with another strong quarter for the victory.

The Blugolds shot 17-54 (31.5 percent) from the field while Graaskamp led the team with 17 points and had five boards. Arien Brennan (Sr. – Hayward, WI) had eight points, eight rebounds, two assists and three steals. Meier came off the bench and contributed eight points.

The Blugolds (12-11, 6-6) return to action on Wednesday when they travel to take on UW-River Falls.
